Mission:
The mission of LAWFS, a Professional Association of Fire Service Women, is to provide a proactive network that supports, mentors, and educates current and future fire service women and men of the Los Angeles area. LAWFS was formed for the following purposes: *To advance the status of women in the Fire Department; *To work with the Fire Department's Affirmative Action program, ensuring equal opportunity to all employees; *Support affirmative employment practices and policies on behalf of all persons irrespective of race, color, creed, national origin, citizenship, ancestry, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender orientation, military status, marital status, familial status, political affiliation, financial status, union status, or physical disability; *Regard a diverse workforce and community as a resource that enriches everyone through the sharing of different perspectives, experiences, and ideas; *Continuing to identify and eliminate barriers to employment and career development of all persons, and ensuring that hiring, assigning, training, evaluating and promoting of employees is done on the basis of merit; *Maintain a permanent nonprofit organization for the mutual benefit of all. |
